Looking back at 2017, what kept you busy this past year?

A: The market didn’t spring any big surprises this year, so we concentrated mainly on major customer-centric projects. Of course, we also focused on driving vjoon K4's development and on long-term strategic considerations.

C: From customers' vantage point, the hottest topic has to be how vjoon K4 is evolving. It often seems that finding the time to cater to all their wishes while putting the company's ideas is like trying to square a circle. How do the product managers and the development team do it?

A: It's all about the magic triangle of time, quality and costs. That alone is enough to set some of our priorities straight. On the other hand, though, we love smart features, as many of our partners and customers are aware. We don't always follow the beaten path to get there. Often we take a different route that may take longer. But we'll go down that road when we believe that our customers will be better off for it.

We put a lot of ideas and wishes into practice, as version 7 of vjoon K4 rather impressively attests. So far, we've added around 20 major features, improved technical aspects and the UI in many ways, and fixed several bugs. The new features include the Approval Manager, an extended Web Editor, Single Sign-On and Twixl integration as well as the Storage Engine. The latter feature streamlines asset management with lean database size, automated snapshots and recovery processes. And it ports the entire publishing environment to the cloud. It's the only one of its kind on the market, which is also reflected in the sales figures. Many of our customers are already working with the Storage Engine, and new orders are coming in all the time. That makes it a real success story.

C: Speaking of success stories, vjoon K4 has been around for 18 years now. What's next?

A: Yes, it's been around for quite some time. After all, it was the world's first InDesign-based magazine publishing system. Of course, there's no such thing as an 18-year product lifecycle in software, so we rewrote vjoon K4 several times over the years. This constant reinvention has made vjoon K4 one of the leading and most fully-featured systems on the market today. It's always spearheading innovations. Take, for example, its support for Adobe InCopy and InDesign Server in the early years. The same goes for its task-driven workflows, Adobe DPS and AEM Mobile integration, and the way it manifests the Unified Publishing Process. It really does delight our customers, and they give it their seal of approval by calling it “rock solid”. The remarkable customer loyalty says it all.

We believe that there will be demand for that kind of system for a long time to come; for systems that provide smart processes and advanced options; systems that enable users to dive deep into the details when they're working. And we have many more ideas for new features that will make vjoon K4 even better and continue to delight customers.

C: There's one topic that needs to be addressed when we're talking about market demand—users want to design website layouts using an HTML editor. A lot of ads out there are promising to meet this huge demand ...

A: We've discussed this with many customers. The idea of being able to quickly create a designed HTML page using HTML authoring tools certainly is tempting. Similar to Dreamweaver and Muse in the past, a merely static standalone page is created. So it's very difficult and takes a lot of effort to connect this page with existing content in the Web CMS. If anything raises the hackles of people who are always talking about media-neutral content, it has to be the solutions that are available now.

C: What you mean by that?

A: Well, here's how a lot of these solutions work: I use my editor to build a static page and get a great preview of my results. Then I have to tear the layout and content apart and export the content to the Web CMS, which then feeds all this into its template and dynamically generates the page. Why should I go to so much trouble? It would be so much easier and faster to edit the data delivered by vjoon K4 directly in the Web CMS.

The solutions available on the market today aren't exactly rocket science. Developing a browser-based HTML authoring tool like this is fairly simple on a technical level, but it doesn't solve the problem that we're talking about here. We've also discussed this with the software giants, but couldn't come up with a viable solution for professional applications. Even so, if a breakthrough does indeed occur, I can assure that we'll provide the support our customers need to take advantage of it. Besides, vjoon K4 has been offering an HTML and ICML Web Editor for several years now, and it can be used to capture content in a structured way.

C: It's an open secret on the market that vjoon has been working on digital asset management for a while now. What's up with that?

A: In the past, we focused mainly on extending DAM functions in vjoon K4. Today, users can already manage image workflows, extensive metadata and all production-related assets in vjoon K4. The panels in the browser client or InDesign and InCopy provide many querying and filter options, including full text searches. They also let you preview the results for images and entire layouts. All images, videos, texts, etc. above and beyond the pure production data are managed by way of file servers or integrated third-party systems. The same goes for the final publications that are exported for archiving. Working with other DAM providers has been a good experience, so we'll continue to collaborate. On top of that, we want to make the most of our know-how to benefit our customers, so we also aim to offer an alternative to them – an optimally integrated solution of our own.

C: When are the first customers going to see this new product?

A: It will certainly take some time, but we started building a second development team a while back. The inceptive phase of sorting out the technology is already behind us, and we've started testing various prototypes. We will, of course, extend the testing to select customers at a later date so we can adapt the performance, feature set and UI to treat users to the best experience. The official unveiling will take place at the next vjoonity, where we'll present it together with a new version of vjoon K4.

C: It's essential to analyze market trends and developments before making strategic decisions about products. What trends have caught your eye?

A: We believe that there's demand for solutions that feel lighter and aren't geared strictly towards publishing houses. The young generation of content marketers and digital natives is at home in the browser, working content first. They drag and drop text, images and videos in from a database, link the team via Trello and/or Google Docs, and create workflows on the fly in Slack, for example, to distribute content via Hootsuite, Wordpress or HubSpot. We're talking about an entirely different approach from what the premise was for earlier systems. Established tools such as InDesign, InCopy and QuarkXPress really are being challenged. It’s about speed, flexibility and costs, of course. But more than anything, it's about easy handling. These days, no one has time for months of training. Incidentally, the same can be said for system administration and even the IT infrastructure.

The writing is on the wall – we're going to need an entirely new generation of systems. There's nothing like that available now, and what’s available is inadequate, to say the least. It doesn't take much to push many entry-level systems to their limits; their feature sets fall well short of what it takes to work in professional environments. Even established vendors are taking baby steps; they're still a long way off from what users really want. We're already factoring these insights into our efforts to develop our future DAM solution. Easy handling is a top priority for us, and by that we also mean ease of use in combination with other systems.

C: We started by looking back at 2017; now we're already looking to the future. What are your expectations for 2018?

A: The company is going to remain an independent and strong player on the market. Our highly qualified employees and excellent global network of partners provide the underpinning for that. Although we have been stepping up our direct contacts with customers for some time, we will continue to rely on our partners for sales, system integration and support. We have also made important forward-looking decisions that will change the face of our company to the outside world and sustain our growth. We're expanding our product portfolio and hiring the people we need to do that. This will clearly benefit both our partners and our customers – and not just in the year ahead.

C: Andreas, thank you very much for the interview.

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Asset Management

Tags

Content Strategy

Innovation

Lean

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 09:20:28 +0000 Carsten 136 at https://blog.vjoonity.com Review of the 5th VDZ Tech Summit https://blog.vjoonity.com/en/review_of_the_5th_vdz_tech_summit Review of the 5th VDZ Tech Summit

VDZ Teaser en

Submitted by dba on Thu, 12/07/2017 - 14:46

Read more about VDZ Teaser en

<picture> </picture>

dba Thu, 12/07/2017 - 14:20
December 07, 2017

Doritt

Review of the 5th VDZ Tech Summit

With approx. 170 visitors, experts and listeners, the 5th VDZ Tech Summit in Hamburg in November was very well attended and offered interesting workshops and a wide range of topics. With so many publishing options, you’re going to have to choose wisely to maximize your chances of reaching your target audience. You’ll also need a smart cross-media mix consisting of various channels, a structured layout to present the content in compliance with legal requirements, and a creative concept that works for your purposes. An annual report not only presents your company’s business situation; it also portrays the people behind it. What sets your enterprise apart? And how do you showcase what makes it special? The chairman’s letter should serve as a guideline. And the business profile – that is, the section concerned with selling your organization’s best attributes – shouldn’t stray too far from it. Boost your company’s brand recognition by bringing out its individuality. If you put all these principles into action, you’ll be able to convey the contents of annual reports in a more focused, effective and powerful way.

What channels work best for your annual report?

Perhaps you want to use all media for your annual report. That will, of course, involve a great deal more effort than merely publishing a printed report and a PDF version, which suffices for most companies. But if you want to do more, linking the report to digital media is the way to go. For example, you could post it on the company’s website. That’s a good option because it lets you connect with so many more people. A website also presents a far more vivid showcase for pictures and videos. The business profile could also be published as an image-building brochure.

Let’s look at two case studies:

Siemens AG (created by hw. design; produced by CCS. Tirol)

The printed version comes in various languages, with further editions delivered across other channels. The online version features responsive design, downloadable PDFs, extensive collections of artworks, and interactive comparisons of key figures. In addition, the report is also published in the electronic Federal Gazette. It would normally require a tremendous amount of effort to compile versions for all these channels and variants.
The Siemens annual report contains anywhere from 450 to 500 pages and goes through 50 to 80 iterations before it’s finalized. These interim versions are works in progress created as authors and editors cycle through revisions and approvals from many in-house and outside contributors. Vast amounts of data have to be shuttled here and there and kept secure everywhere. vjoon K4 has simplified and accelerated all this. What once took eight weeks without vjoon K4 can now be done in a week and a half in a highly automated workflow. What’s more, this process not only results in a printed report; it delivers digital editions and various online versions simultaneously. All in all, it now takes 30% less time and effort to produce a cross-media report. Click here to see a video showing the SIEMENS annual report in the making.

$$$$$

AUDI AG (created & produced by BrandsOnSpeed)

The online version offers a wealth of data, cross-media apps, videos and individual PDFs. The transformation process is in full swing at Audi, as the annual report produced by vjoon client BrandsOnSpeed so vividly attests. The printed edition features a fresh look and feel born of a new design concept. Short teasers, rather than full-length stories, give the reader a quick, condensed run-down of key facts. The full stories are also posted online to make the annual report a complete package. The magazine section also features in a separately produced magazine.

These two examples have earned top marks for their cross-media delivery in comparative reviews and studies (“ihr-geschaeftsbericht.de”)

Does print still have a place and purpose?

The digital transformation may be sweeping nations, but a 2014 "WirDesign" study says print remains the leading medium. Companies are coming back to it for their corporate content. In the DACH region, spending in 2016 was up by around 10% from 2014, rising to €3.1 billion, according to a CMF study (Content Marketing Forum). Enterprises in all lines of business are rediscovering the joys of pamphlets that people can actually touch. Magazines hold weight. Quality publications leave lasting impressions that can’t be swiped aside like digital images.

Most readers still expect to see printed annual reports done up in an attractive, clearly structured package. They appreciate the hands-on benefits of printed editions: They’re easy to read and browse, and highlighting key passages feels like an intuitive thing to do.
A PDF on a website doesn’t make quite the same impression as an enticing envelope in a mailbox, and the report inside just feels more valuable. Printed matter has a heft and gravity to it. Hardcopy treats readers to a tactile experience. Reading fatigue sets in a lot earlier on screens; it takes some stamina to plough through an entire digital annual report.

The PDF: many possibilities with a modicum of effort

Even so, the PDF has its raison d’ être. Many financial and annual reports are published exclusively online as downloadable PDF files. Bookmarks, search functions and content-linked keywords make it easier for readers to find their way around long, complicated annual reports. Interactive PDFs with dynamic elements offer even more options. Annual reports are frequently offered as flip-book PDFs where the browser interface mimics the turning printed pages. This medium has the benefits of a fast-loading, 24/7 accessible digital document with a convenient keyword search. But the reader is only going to enjoy those benefits if the annual report is easy to navigate, responsive, and reader-friendly.

Does the annual report have to be available as an app?

Is the annual report in form of a mobile app merely a niche product? Like an online publication, the app displays content in a user-friendly way and factors in additional information. Unlike an online publication, it has the added advantage of enabling offline use. It also turns a collection of dry facts and figures into an interactive journey of discovery that allows users to zoom in on specific information in a way that feels more like play than work. And the numbers-heavy financial section can be optimized with user-friendly navigation.
A 2014 Kirchhoff-Consult study found that only around 50% of annual reports are optimized for mobile devices. However, creating an app is far more complicated. The effort that goes into this should not be underestimated.

What’s your budget going to be?

Of course, you want to keep an eye on costs when you’re considering formatting options and distribution channels. A sophisticated annual report can cost over €100,000 euros. Around 28% of that goes into printing, 23% for pictures and rights, 22% on prepress, 7% for logistics, 5% on paper, and at least 3% has to be budgeted for consulting services.
DAX companies spend an average of around €30,000 on their annual reports. Smaller companies’ budgets amount to some €15,000. And SDAX companies devote about €8,200 to their publications, according to a 2003 Heise online survey.

$$$$$

Upshot

The success of an annual report hinges on its content and how well it is prepared and disseminated. Its look and feel have to be unmistakable and compelling enough to strengthen the brand. It will only gain acceptance, positive reviews and a widespread readership if the report is deemed useful. These days, even very complex annual reports such as the SIEMENS report can be produced with a reasonable amount of time and effort – given the right software and tools (such as vjoon K4).

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Tags

Content Strategy

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

field_blogentry_image_collection 1

Wed, 29 Nov 2017 13:41:37 +0000 dba 119 at https://blog.vjoonity.com Popular overset and notes plug-ins are available for Adobe CC 2018 https://blog.vjoonity.com/en/popular_overset_and_notes_plug_ins_are_available_for_adobe_cc_2018 Popular overset and notes plug-ins are available for Adobe CC 2018

Adobe CC 2018 vjoon Plug-ins Overset Notes

Submitted by Carsten on Mon, 11/20/2017 - It’s a microcosm of the digital transformation—the digital economy’s entire value chain squeezed into one space for all to see. The mind boggles at the sheer volume of information presented in dmexco’s many workshops, discussions and lectures. Some 1,100 exhibitors from 39 countries certainly had a lot to share. And a parade of influential speakers such as Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Philipp Welte, a member of Hubert Burda Media’s management board, had a lot to say in the venue’s jam-packed auditoriums.

Despite the carping from vocal critics in the run-up to the event, some 40,700 visitors made their way to Cologne on the banks of the Rhine River. The turnout underscores dmexco’s international acclaim: More than 40% of visitors and 50% of exhibitors hailed from abroad in 2016. Granted, visitor numbers were down from 2016, but the fact that this year’s show was the first to charge admission may have had a little to do with that. On the upside, the consensus among the organizer’s crew and most exhibitors was that the paywall had the positive effect of attracting a more professional crowd.

The megatrends in marketing

The same mantra was to be heard echoing throughout the conference and trade fair: If they want more efficient business processes, marketers, sales reps, product developers and customer service people have to start thinking beyond the boundaries of their silos. Technology is merely a means to support concepts and strategies that enable companies to gain a holistic understanding of the customer. Artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality (VR) and automation are the marketing megatrends these days. Much of it may still sound like science fiction, but some of it has already been put into practice in applications and solutions. This is why vjoon, represented by its partner Energy Net, was a first-time exhibitor this year. Energy Net set up shop in hall 7, alongside the likes of SAP, Intershop and Arvato Bertelsmann.

$$$$$

The drive to optimize the workflows that create content is nothing new, of course. However, many marketing managers are only now beginning to realize the potential of automated processes and database-driven content creation. And that is the domain of systems like vjoon K4. If the reaction of visitors to the booth is anything to go by, they were deeply impressed with vjoon K4’s capacity to make working life so much easier for people who collaborate in and across teams to create and approve content for publication.

Secondary observations and thoughts on why it pays to visit dmexco

The ubiquitous long lines were also quite impressive. Lines may be inevitable wherever an event attracts crowds, but joining the epic queue in front of the Debate Hall was an option only for those with much time to spare and no commitments on the calendar. Food and beverages were pricey; the wait was long. And time definitely did not fly while waiting for one’s turn to answer nature’s call. Of course, nobody stood in line for wifi service—it was so rarely available that waiting would have been pointless.

That said, if what you do for a living has anything at all to do with marketing, dmexco has to be a can’t-miss event for you. It lives up to its billing as the “industry’s class reunion”. Yes, you will be confronted with the usual avalanche of buzz words, the occasional poseur-pundit, and hype so exaggerated that it borders on the hysterical. But the many fascinating lectures, discussions and workshops are very cool, as is a lot of the tech-talk and innovation on display. And that more than makes up for all the hot air.

dmexco offers plenty of inspiration to take back to your workplace. And with a little critical distance, you will be able to distinguish the helpful from the hype and cherry-pick what works for you. Some critics griped that the fair neglected domestic topics. There may be some merit to that, but a major international conference simply can’t do without luminaries like Sheryl Sandberg and Jack Dorsey on its marquee.

Topic

Content Marketing

Tags

Event

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

Wed, 04 Oct 2017 13:41:27 +0000 Carsten 113 at https://blog.vjoonity.com Immer am Ball bleiben mit den neuesten Trends - AM&P 2017 https://blog.vjoonity.com/de/immer_am_ball_bleiben_mit_den_neuesten_trends_amp_2017 Keep always up-to-date about the latest trends – AM&P 2017

AMP 2017

Submitted by dba on Wed, 08/02/2017 - 16:21

Read more about AMP 2017

<picture> </picture>

dba Thu, 08/03/2017 - 10:30
August 02, 2017

Doritt

Keep always up-to-date about the latest trends – AM&P 2017

Together with our partners DPCI and Flux Consulting we met a lot of interesting people in Washington at AM&P 2017, the annual meeting of the Association of Media & Publishing. Around 200 leaders from premiere associations across the country joined the AMP17 event and listened to speakers about new communication trends and marketing techniques of today and tomorrow. The lecturers talked about how to write appealing headlines, using plain language, creating data-driven associations and the effective use of Twitter and other social media. In addition to the discussions and presentations of the conference, it’s an attendee survey by Unleashed Technologies that provides interesting insights into the major topics and issues of the associations:

Survey

$$$$$

The survey showed that 59% of the attendees consider their organization’s content to be “above average” or “exceptional” (compared to 60% at AMP16). But, with an increasing focus on the importance of content in the association world, it is not surprising that the attendees feel confident with the quality of the content they are creating for their members. And the associations will continue to invest time, resources, and skills to ensure quality content synonymous with their organisation.

Nearly 40% of the attendees responded that their organization’s content resonates with their members because they consider it as a trusted resource. When asked what aspect of their organization’s website they would like to improve most, content once again proved king as 47% of attendees responded that updating their site’s content quickly and easily is a current pain point. This result speaks directly to the importance of leveraging a powerful content management system. This ensures that association publishing teams can rapidly generate, publish, update, and distribute content.

This survey of Unleashed Technologies again points out that it becomes more and more important to include modern publishing systems and to publish over various off- and online media channels. By digitally publishing content on these various channels, you allow your message to reach a much broader audience and thus can increase your message’s frequency and effectiveness.

Association Media & Publishing

Association Media & Publishing is an organization dedicated to the needs of print and digital publishers. AM&P serves association business operations executives, communication professionals, designers, editors, and content creators, and the media they create.

Topic

Content Marketing

Tags

Event

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

field_blogentry_image_collection 1

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 14:00:21 +0000 dba 106 at https://blog.vjoonity.com Interview mit Twixl & vjoon: Entwicklungen im Mobile Publishing https://blog.vjoonity.com/de/interview_mit_twixl_vjoon_entwicklungen_im_mobile_publishing Q&A: Twixl & vjoon - Developments in mobile publishing

vjoon to Twixl Team Collaboration

Submitted by Carsten on Mon, 08/14/2017 - 11:41

Read more about vjoon to Twixl Team Collaboration

<picture> </picture>

Christian Tue, 07/25/2017 - 16:02
July 25, 2017

Christian

Q&A: Twixl & vjoon – Developments in mobile publishing

Mobile publishing is changing so fast, it’s a challenge for publishers to keep up. Holger Kraemer of vjoon and Twixl’s Laurent Gerniers, both experts in mobile strategies, look at some of the key decisions publishers need to make.

Q: Mobile apps have been around for some time now; much has changed. What’s the current state of play?
A (Holger/ vjoon): Digital editions have long been a focus for publishers, however, with the rise of smartphones, new possibilities to enrich content have presented themselves, especially for apps. To achieve that, publishers have had to partially reorganise their offerings or even switch to new production paradigms, like ‘digital first’.
That the customer of tomorrow is reached via mobile has been well understood by many publishers and they have adapted accordingly. We see that readers expect more and more exclusive content on mobile devices. Video is becoming increasingly important but it’s complex and costly to produce. Communication and marketing departments also want to reach their target groups via mobile channels and are looking for strategic solutions to bring their annual reports or customer magazines simply and efficiently to mobile devices. In our experience, automation can help to implement and streamline complex, ambitious projects to enrich content, thereby greatly reducing the pressure on staff time.

Q: What are the biggest questions publishers face in producing mobile editions?
A (Holger/ vjoon): The big choice is: pixel-perfect design vs universal templated layouts via HTML. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages. Many publishers will operate on a case-by-case basis. New technologies are driving higher expectations; whether they can meet those expectations remains to be seen. Some of our major customers are working with InDesign because they have many years experience working that way and have accumulated a lot of expertise in this area. They have great passion for detail. Equally important is that these companies have existing workflows and well-balanced revenue models, which they will not discard lightly for what they see as still unproven technology. But as said above, it is a case-by-case decision. Certainly, it makes sense to push content for recurring layouts (eg. newspapers) into HTML templates. As already mentioned, readers expect exclusive content if they are buying a digital edition for mobile devices. In order to achieve this creative excellence, new teams have to be formed. Maybe you need an extra video professional? For cost-efficient production, these teams must then integrate with existing workflows in a lean way. Collaboration is critical. Here, a lot of work can be done via automation which enables new ways of content production and to accelerate the time to market. Looking at how disruptive technologies affect our daily lives, publishers are well advised to keep their systems “open” for new technologies. Every cross-media publishing platform should be able to integrate new technologies in the future. So, you should ask yourself to what extent do your existing productive processes allow for the easy integration of third party systems? Another question regards the monetisation of mobile editions, which can be problematic, especially when the costs of mobile content creation are not clearly defined at the beginning. Revenue models must then be adapted or production cost lowered, often to the detriment of content quality. At this point, I usually recommend publishers save time and money through automation. Money saved can then be invested in mobile content.

$$$$$

Q: Do you recommend publishers developing their apps in-house or buying out-of-the box enterprise solutions?
A (Laurent/ Twixl): If you develop it yourself, you will probably get exactly what you want, at least that’s the goal, but at what cost and how long will it take you to get there? Not only will you have the initial development costs, but also the costs for the infrastructure and yearly maintenance, not to mention the internal project management costs.
A mobile publishing solution consists of different parts. It allows you to:

create enriched content

create an app that can read that content

determine the look and feel of your app, sell content through the app stores and manage who gets access to which content

distribute your content worldwide

manage your content

gather analytic information

Today, different specialised mobile publishing solutions are available on the market that offer a vast variety of features and functionalities at an affordable price tag. They offer those services under a subscription model at a fraction of the price you’ll need to pay for custom development. These solutions are not new, and have been on the market since the early days of mobile publishing. They have evolved based on customer feedback over the last six or seven years, so they offer most if not all of the features publishers may need. The most common argument for custom development is the need for a very specific feature. To be successful, any out-of-the-box solution needs to be open and flexible. There again, most solutions make it possible to integrate content and functionality through HTML. These solutions also integrate with external content coming from an editorial system or a CMS, or from an RSS feed. Even if this may sometimes require some custom development, it will still be more cost-effective than a fully custom developed app. My advice would be to buy experience and still have the option to customise.

Q: What advice would you give publishers to help them assess their mobile situation?
A (Holger/ vjoon): I would recommend a three-point plan:

Publishers and corporates should develop a digital strategy that fits their needs; better to do this today, rather than put it off until tomorrow.

Pay attention to how new processes can be implemented within existing production processes.

Lean production saves money and automated processes can give you a business advantage! The money and time you are saving can be reinvested in exclusive mobile content.

Watch the video on vjoon.tv to learn more about vjoon K4 integrated with Twixl Publisher.

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Collaboration

Tags

Content Strategy

Innovation

Lean

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

Tue, 25 Jul 2017 13:41:00 +0000 Christian 100 at https://blog.vjoonity.com Content Marketing: „It’s the Relationship That Matters“ – A Look Back at the 2017 BCM Congress https://blog.vjoonity.com/en/content_marketing_its_the_relationship_that_matters_a_look_back_at_the_2017_bcm_congress Content Marketing: „It’s the Relationship That Matters“ – A Look Back at the 2017 BCM Congress

Event BCM 2017 Audience Content Marketing

Submitted by dba on Tue, 07/18/2017 - Many brand-name companies and agencies from at home and abroad heeded its call. Opportunities to meet, greet and network with peers were certainly plentiful. Content experts from around the world shared their thoughts, exploring intriguing topics in presentations and panel discussions.

Hans-Christian Schwingen, Head of Brand Strategy and Marketing Communication at Deutsche Telekom, talked about Brand Transformation in the Digital Age, while Dr. Christoph Schneider, Managing Director of Amazon Video Germany, offered his insights into Successful Content Distribution.

Is Digital Content still the King?

$$$$$

Is content marketing even compatible with independent journalism? Isn’t hypocrisy, and not content marketing, that is destroying journalism? Is digital content more valuable than printed content these days? These and other hot issues sparked heated debated in the moderated panel discussion.

Content May Be King. Distribution May Be Queen. But It’s the Relationship That Matters – Jeremy Abbett, formerly a Google Creative Evangelist in London, picked up on a few buzzwords to voice his thoughts on the importance of making a connection.

The tough task of mastering the technical challenges of content marketing also featured prominently on the agenda. Our man on the scene Paul Hörbelt of SNAP Innovation was impressed with the presentations, particularly the lecture on Content Marketing in the US: Truths and Myths. Georgine Anton, President of MXM (Meredith Xcelerated Marketing), made the strong point that IT investments in state-of-the-art systems are becoming more and more important to companies with advancing digitalization.

This year’s awards contest attracted more than 250 companies and agencies, which submitted over 700 entries. In the past, contestants had entered mainly customer magazines into the competition. This time around, half the entries consisted of printed media such as magazines, books and financial reports, with the other half being digital content. Entries were judged for impact and quality of content.

Awards come in various categories. A key advantage of this cloud service is that Amazon is constantly adding new data centers, especially in hubs of commerce and industry, to meet growing demand for cloud services, cut latency and boost performance. With vjoon Storage Engine and Amazon S3, customers can access the data center that best suits their needs whenever they wish. With this new release, it is even easier to react on Amazon’s growing network of data centers to enjoy even better performance in the cloud.

Find more informationen and a video about vjoon Storage Engine here.
Read more about Amazon Web Services here.

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Tags

Content

Lean

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 11:40:23 +0000 Carsten 96 at https://blog.vjoonity.com „La Presse au Futur“ in Paris – ein Rückblick. https://blog.vjoonity.com/de/la_presse_au_futur_in_paris_ein_rueckblick “La Presse au Futur” in Paris – recap.

La Presse au Futur 2016

Submitted by mbienk on Thu, 01/19/2017 - 11:44

Read more about La Presse au Futur 2016

<picture> </picture>

Carsten Thu, 12/08/2016 - 16:52
December 09, 2016

Carsten

La Presse au Futur in Paris – recap.

From November 23 to 24 “La Presse au Futur” took place in Paris for the 10th time. This event includes a comprehensive presentation and workshop program as well as a fair with around 70 exhibitors. As one of the largest and most important industry events in France, more than 1,000 publishing experts and executives are visiting this conference each year. For some years now vjoon and its French integration partner Mediangle are also amongst the sponsors and exhibitors.

I talked to Thomas Koerner, Senior Business Development Manager at vjoon, about his impressions of the event:

Thomas, what topics were discussed at La Presse au Futur?

The main topics were digitalization, monetization and future technologies – of course common topics that are currently discussed worldwide within the publishing industry. Insofar there were no new topics but it was obvious that the visitors were dealing with the questions just mentioned and they expected to be updated about these topics. This was also reflected by the well attended workshop sessions – including the one “Create, manage, post and distribute your content” performed by our partner Mediangle. Also, we were very busy on our booth, had interesting discussions and answered many questions.

What did the visitors want to know?

Most of them wanted to know how to automate the deployment of print and digital content on websites or apps – primary affected by cost-cutting pressure and the massive number of different platforms. For many companies the large digital publishing solutions, introduced with high marketing pressure years ago, don’t pay off today. That’s why customers are looking for alternatives which enable a cost-efficient and lean production of mobile content. For this purpose customers are happy to be advised on site by our regional partners.

And if you already think about automations and workflows, topics like efficient collaboration and approval management are not far away. We already knew about their importance and within the scope of our latest software release we presented an appropriate solution for that.

$$$$$

Were there many discussions and questions about the cloud?

There are more companies that consider the cloud than commonly assumed. While many companies in the USA already shifted their IT into the cloud, the trend in Europe is rather restrained. However, the interest is growing and covers the whole spectrum of possibilities. Whether it is an entire system including third-party solutions running in the cloud or only a part of it, for example the data management, it is obvious that the demand is growing.

What’s your conclusion about La Presse au Futur?

Great conversations and many prospects. The positive reactions indicate that we had the right answers on their questions. From our perspective it was an excellent event and we are happy to return.

La Presse au Futur will take place again next year from November 29-30 in Paris.

$$$$$

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Tags

Content Strategy

Event

Lean

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

field_blogentry_image_collection 1

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 14:47:35 +0000 Carsten 54 at https://blog.vjoonity.com
