We have long been a sponsor, and our partner SNAP Innovation was on hand to represent us at Europe‘s leading content marketing congress and awards ceremony.

In recent years, the congress has entrenched its position as the go-to international content marketing marketing event in the Germanophone region. Many brand-name companies and agencies from at home and abroad heeded its call. Opportunities to meet, greet and network with peers were certainly plentiful. Content experts from around the world shared their thoughts, exploring intriguing topics in presentations and panel discussions.

Hans-Christian Schwingen, Head of Brand Strategy and Marketing Communication at Deutsche Telekom, talked about Brand Transformation in the Digital Age, while Dr. Christoph Schneider, Managing Director of Amazon Video Germany, offered his insights into Successful Content Distribution.

Is content marketing even compatible with independent journalism? Isn’t hypocrisy, and not content marketing, that is destroying journalism? Is digital content more valuable than printed content these days? These and other hot issues sparked heated debated in the moderated panel discussion.

Content May Be King. Distribution May Be Queen. But It’s the Relationship That Matters – Jeremy Abbett, formerly a Google Creative Evangelist in London, picked up on a few buzzwords to voice his thoughts on the importance of making a connection.

The tough task of mastering the technical challenges of content marketing also featured prominently on the agenda. Our man on the scene Paul Hörbelt of SNAP Innovation was impressed with the presentations, particularly the lecture on Content Marketing in the US: Truths and Myths. Georgine Anton, President of MXM (Meredith Xcelerated Marketing), made the strong point that IT investments in state-of-the-art systems are becoming more and more important to companies with advancing digitalization.

This year’s awards contest attracted more than 250 companies and agencies, which submitted over 700 entries. In the past, contestants had entered mainly customer magazines into the competition. This time around, half the entries consisted of printed media such as magazines, books and financial reports, with the other half being digital content. Entries were judged for impact and quality of content.

Awards come in various categories. Our client C3 Creative Code and Content came away with several Reporting, Magazine and Special Awards for Allianz’s 1890, Robert Bosch’s Bosch-Zünder and the Bundeswehr’s Y magazines, while muehlhausmoers took home the coveted trophy for the 2016 Global Hunger Index, an annual report published by Welthungerhilfe.

Audi AG’s annual report, created by BrandsOnSpeed, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for publications that have at least three Gold Awards to their credit.

$$$$$

Topic

Content Marketing

Tags

Event

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 14:21:34 +0000 dba 97 at http://blog.vjoonity.com Twixl-Integration, SSO, Cloud Management: Feature enhancements in vjoon K4 http://blog.vjoonity.com/en/twixl_integration_sso_cloud_management_feature_enhancements_in_vjoon_k4 Twixl-Integration, SSO, Cloud Management: Feature enhancements in vjoon K4

Twixl Tablet Analytics Stoppuhr

Submitted by Carsten on Wed, 03/29/2017 - A good example of this provides the current release of vjoon K4 version 7 R3. Compared to its first presentation in September 2016, the integration with Twixl Publisher has been optimized, enabling content marketers and publishers to edit and publish their content in one professional, highly automated environment centered on vjoon K4. Other examples are the integration with single sign-on and enhancements for vjoon Storage Engine.

High-quality mobile apps for Twixl Publisher

Readers want premium-quality content. They don’t like to comprise simply because it is delivered to a smartphone or tablet. And they want their reading material to be enriched with videos, galleries and other interactive features. Compelling visuals and high-resolution images are expected on every device. vjoon K4 helps streamline and automate content publishing without adversely affecting the quality of the presentation. Its lean publishing capabilities allow content marketers and publishers to port their designed content via Twixl Publisher to mobile apps―quickly, easily, in rich detail and in the proper resolution. What’s more, vjoon K4 paired with the Twixl solution can make the publishing process even more robust and reliable. For example, the user could opt to integrate Extensis® Universal Type Server® to add powerful font management capability to the toolset.

Find more informationen and a video about vjoon K4 and Twixl Publisher here.
Read more about font management in vjoon K4 here.

Secure login with SSO

Users seeking even more convenient access to vjoon K4 multichannel publishing platform may enable single sign-on for the various vjoon K4 modules. With SSO, one authentication per session with the password and name is all it takes to access all resources. vjoon K4 takes care of the rest with an encrypted login performed in the background on a central server. K4 Overview, K4 Approval Manager and any other module configured in the system may then be launched without having to log in again. Using a single strong password rather than several weak passwords saves time and enhances overall security.

Learn more about single sign-on here.

Higher performance with new cloud data centers

This version of vjoon K4 also optimizes data management in the Amazon Cloud. A key advantage of this cloud service is that Amazon is constantly adding new data centers, especially in hubs of commerce and industry, to meet growing demand for cloud services, cut latency and boost performance. With vjoon Storage Engine and Amazon S3, customers can access the data center that best suits their needs whenever they wish. With this new release, it is even easier to react on Amazon’s growing network of data centers to enjoy even better performance in the cloud.

Find more informationen and a video about vjoon Storage Engine here.
Read more about Amazon Web Services here.

Topic

Multi-Channel Publishing

Tags

Content

Lean

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 11:40:23 +0000 Carsten 96 at http://blog.vjoonity.com „La Presse au Futur“ in Paris – ein Rückblick. http://blog.vjoonity.com/de/la_presse_au_futur_in_paris_ein_rueckblick “La Presse au Futur” in Paris – recap.

La Presse au Futur 2016

Submitted by mbienk on Thu, 01/19/2017 - 11:44

Read more about La Presse au Futur 2016

<picture> </picture>

Carsten Thu, 12/08/2016 - 16:52
December 09, 2016

Carsten

La Presse au Futur in Paris – recap.

From November 23 to 24 “La Presse au Futur” took place in Paris for the 10th time. This event includes a comprehensive presentation and workshop program as well as a fair with around 70 exhibitors. As one of the largest and most important industry events in France, more than 1,000 publishing experts and executives are visiting this conference each year. For some years now vjoon and its French integration partner Mediangle are also amongst the sponsors and exhibitors.

I talked to Thomas Koerner, Senior Business Development Manager at vjoon, about his impressions of the event:

Thomas, what topics were discussed at La Presse au Futur?

The main topics were digitalization, monetization and future technologies – of course common topics that are currently discussed worldwide within the publishing industry. Insofar there were no new topics but it was obvious that the visitors were dealing with the questions just mentioned and they expected to be updated about these topics. This was also reflected by the well attended workshop sessions – including the one “Create, manage, post and distribute your content” performed by our partner Mediangle. Also, we were very busy on our booth, had interesting discussions and answered many questions.

What did the visitors want to know?

Most of them wanted to know how to automate the deployment of print and digital content on websites or apps – primary affected by cost-cutting pressure and the massive number of different platforms. For many companies the large digital publishing solutions, introduced with high marketing pressure years ago, don’t pay off today. That’s why customers are looking for alternatives which enable a cost-efficient and lean production of mobile content. For this purpose customers are happy to be advised on site by our regional partners.

And if you already think about automations and workflows, topics like efficient collaboration and approval management are not far away. We already knew about their importance and within the scope of our latest software release we presented an appropriate solution for that.

$$$$$

Were there many discussions and questions about the cloud?

There are more companies that consider the cloud than commonly assumed. While many companies in the USA already shifted their IT into the cloud, the trend in Europe is rather restrained. However, the interest is growing and covers the whole spectrum of possibilities. Another Research Institute, the International Data Corporation (IDC), estimates with 28 billion devices in 2020 even higher values. Both institutes see those devices to be responsible for ten percent of the worldwide data traffic at that time. With these numbers in mind, it becomes clear that the process of digital transformation will take place in giant steps. And its consequences will have such an impact, that our daily routine and professional life will be influenced in many ways.

$$$$$

While in the 18th century spinning and sewing factories have been the harbingers of the upcoming industrialization, todays data warehouses are indicating the digital era. Even today they are processing data volumes in petabyte scale. Slowly and steadily, the Digital is dominating our everyday life. Today companies are using the internet for their marketing activities, because of its easy-to-access-infrastructure and the possibility to directly communicate with customers and target groups. Here, the Digital transforms an enterprise’s communications department to a more or less digital media house. Indeed, these departments were used to produce newspapers and magazines for their employees and customers for a long time. But the way how content is presented to the reader has drastically changed over the years. Corporate communications do no longer have to rely on publishers to get in contact with their target groups. Today they reach their customers or readers by internet using their own channels. Apps, Social Media or PDF downloads are available at any time and publishers, who are inbetween the company and the customer, are no longer needed. That‘s an advantage and a challenge at the same time. As corporate communication was originally intended to inform about products and companies, the audience now expects more entertainment and service, perhaps even a more neutral communication. Many corporates try to approach this matter by designing communications in a way, that it is perceived more as journalistic product than an advertising campaign.

$$$$$

At the same time another change can be seen on the publisher’s side. More and more of them are trying to be perceived as a lifestyle or service brand. They try to use their reputation and knowledge about their target groups to generate new business off the beaten track. For example, the publisher Condé Nast opened a worldwide restaurant chain while addressing directly the Vogue readership according to its claim “An exciting combination of delicate contemporary cuisine, elegant decor and impeccable service did embody the spirit of Vogue.”

$$$$$

Companies behave like media, media more and more like brands. In the past, companies marketed their products with the help of publishers. Today, companies focus on their own channels to communicate with their customers.

Topic

Content Marketing

Multi-Channel Publishing

Tags

Content

Innovation

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

field_blogentry_image_collection 1

field_blogentry_image_collection 2

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 09:11:54 +0000 Christian 45 at http://blog.vjoonity.com Cloud-Computing 2016 http://blog.vjoonity.com/de/digitale_transformation_nicht_ohne_meine_cloud Cloud-Computing 2016

vj Cloud Computing

Submitted by mbienk on Thu, 01/19/2017 - That’s not only a feeling of the author, but can be proved by several studies. A survey by IBM, covering 5,247 C-level managers (CxO) from 70 countries, revealed that cloud computing is the most important technology issue for approximately two-thirds (63%) of the respondents, even before mobile technologies (61%) and the Internet of Things (57%).

But, to rate the topic as important, doesn’t necessarily say anything about daily business or its implementation. A study from KPMG in cooperation with Bitkom, provides a good overview about that – 54% of the interviewed companies are already using cloud services, added by 18% which are engaged in this subject. In 2011, cloud services had been used only by 28%. And, while in the beginning mostly enterprises and larger companies thought the topic was important, it now also appears on the agenda of small and medium-sized companies.

$$$$$

What drives enterprises into the cloud?

According to a recently published study from IDC, 6 of 10 respondents identified cloud computing as the most important issue for the digital transformation – even before big data and mobility. By using cloud services, the respondents from both, the IBM and the KPMG study, expect more agility and speed, lower capital expenditures and operating costs, more productive use of IT and easier collaboration.

Will the cloud keep its promises?

In fact, most of the objectives will be achieved. The KPMG study indicates, that 74 percent of the respondents report an improved access. A similar picture is drawn for faster scalability, better performance and decreasing costs. Of course, there are also criticisms and concerns about cloud usage. The “Rightscale 2016 State of the Cloud Report” names at first place, the companies concerns about the lack of resources and expertise, followed by security and compliance aspects. The year before it was exactly opposite. In Germany, security issues like unauthorized access or data loss are at the top of the list. Nevertheless, the KPMG study cites that the values for Germany in 2016 are particularly lower, indicating a trend to less concerns about cloud computing in Germany.

Legal issues arised especially in Europe. Because of the EU Court of Justice‘s Safe Harbor judgment, many companies came into difficulties, not only the cloud service providers themselves, but their customers in Europe as well. To meet the EU privacy requirements, a lot of data centers have emerged in Europe subsequently. This step was particularly important for Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is the largest provider of cloud infrastructures worldwide, representing 31% market share. The implementation of the new agreement “EU-US Privacy Shield” will show if this development will continue.

$$$$$

The cloud for publishers and marketeers: intelligent data management required.

Every industry and geographic region is influenced by certain factors, like business processes, broadband access or the legislative framework. But, at the end of the day, agencies, brands and media companies pursue the same objectives as companies from any other industry. Especially for media companies, with their huge archives and extensive production data, or for the booming content marketing sector, scalable and high-performance cloud solutions, like AWS and others, are most suitable.

To always use a modern, high-performance IT infrastructure and reduce medium- and long-run costs, entire production environments can be moved into the cloud. Thereby, intelligent data management concepts can help to use automated processes to connect different storage locations in the background. Considering the fact that, according to IDC, hybrid clouds (linking a company‘s traditional IT environment with private, hosted or public cloud services) are becoming more and more important for an enterprise’s IT plannings, this factor should not be underestimated.

Topic

Asset Management

Tags

Content

Content Strategy

Lean

Study

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

field_blogentry_image_collection 1

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 15:06:06 +0000 Marketing 38 at http://blog.vjoonity.com SIEMENS Geschäftsbericht http://blog.vjoonity.com/en/video_siemens_annual_report_produced_in_just_ten_days_with_vjoon_k4 SIEMENS Geschäftsbericht

SIEMENS AG Annual Report Video

Submitted by mbienk on Thu, 01/19/2017 - User are more and more searching for content, which is involving and relates to them personally. But the resulting quality pressure is not the only challenge companies have to face.

It has been often predicted and announced for years that mobile is the next big thing. Now mobile is well on the way to become the dominating channel. According to a study by GfK consumer research association, younger internet users, aged between 14 and 29, spend 67% of their online time on the smartphone. Even older users, aged 55 or over, spend more time on the smartphone than on desktop computers. Across all age groups, 87% of the mobile usage time is spent with apps. And even if the use of smartphones differs by age group, the high use of mobile in comparison to the entire online usage, illustrates that the importance of internet usage with smartphones has risen across all age groups. The Cisco Visual Networking Index predicts a tenfold increase of the global smartphone traffic until 2019. More smartphones, faster networks and more convenient use of even big data content, favour this development forecast.

Mobile takes it all

But that’s not all: companies which have not optimized their websites for mobile devices should think about that immediately. In mid-March of this year, Google announced a change to the algorithm which prefers mobile optimized results from May on. Last year the group had announced that more Google searches already take place on mobile devices than on computers. Mobile is an integral part in the media mix. Those, who want to communicate with their target groups MUST consider mobile channels. What does that mean for companies? Clearly, smartphones have to be a focus in every content strategy.

Storytelling for mobile: particles instead of articles

Many companies (and journalists) still believe “true” content is a complete and coherent chunk of text. But instead of reports, features, commentaries and interviews, corporate communication will have to make good use of linked tweets, snaps, streams, Instagram and Facebook posts, to tell their stories in the future. In the era of “always-and-everywhere-content” the question of beginning and end of (corporate) content is not easy to answer.

Content in episodes

In the best case, good content provides added value to the user over a longer period of time and across multiple channels. This is not possible? Of course, it is – with episodic content. This kind of content tells a story bit by bit, taking the user on an entertaining journey. Using the versatile possibilities of online communication, content can for example be published across different channels, so that the user can understand the whole story only after visiting all of these channels. But it is important to provide added value for the target group in EVERY episode.

$$$$$

Video- and livestreaming: now rather than later

Studies assume that video content will cover almost 70% of the entire online traffic until 2017. By 2019, that number will be even 80%. Videos on Twitter, Instagram, Vine or “the good old” YouTube already are an influential part within online communication. Live streaming services, such as Periscope, Meerkat, etc. are becoming increasingly common. Together with them, social media have emerged that allow content in real time: easily consumable for the user and always up to date. With entertaining videos, users are getting deeper into the story. And BTW, for a smartphone user it is much more comfortable to watch a video instead of reading long texts.

Mobile-friendly design: This should be on your screen

Not too long ago, mobile sites were seen as a compact add-on for “regular” websites. Meanwhile, the design of the mobile site has priority. And at least since Google’s mobile update, changed conditions apply to the mobile sites’ user-friendliness. Besides, users of mobile devices want to get quick answers to their questions. So it is no surprise, that simple processes, easy-to-be-found content and short loading times are extremely important to them.

Responsive websites, sites with dynamic device identification, and own URLs for mobile sites are three approaches to meet both, mobile and stationary websites. Google itself recommends a responsive page: device-dependent layouts for the same content. In addition, a recent study on the mobile SEO ranking factors of Searchmetrics revealed, that nearly one third of the high ranking pages had a responsive design. But again: Everything is nothing without up-to-date and well-prepared content.

Topic

Content Marketing

Tags

Content

Content Strategy

Study

Image Collection

field_blogentry_image_collection 0

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 12:45:53 +0000 Teresa 31 at http://blog.vjoonity.com Drei Erfolgreiche Content Marketing Beispiele http://blog.vjoonity.com/de/drei_beispiele_fuer_ein_erfolgreiches_content_marketing Drei Erfolgreiche Content Marketing Beispiele

Drei Beispiele

Submitted by mbienk on Thu, 01/19/2017 - 12:03

Read more about Drei Beispiele

<picture> </picture>

Christian Wed, 06/15/2016 - 15:52
April 22, 2016

Christian

Three Examples of Successful Content Marketing

Today more and more brands leave the trails of traditional advertising and start to work in the areas of traditional publishing. They establish and maintain their own content channels, such as websites, apps or magazines, filled with journalistically-driven stories, mostly produced inhouse. Managed by marketing departments, these editorial organizations achieve a quality, which more and more cuts the ground from under the feet of the publishers.

On the one hand, this is a response to changed expectations of customers and readers. Advertising, as known today, continues to lose ground, and traditional media is struggling with declining coverage. Many CMOs have to deal with a further fragmented landscape of digital channels. On the other hand, the long-term incentive to invest in traditional advertising is eroding, because you can reach customers in a much more focussed way using your own channels. The direct contact with the customer, the ability to communicate and interact, as well as much more detailed analytics, that traditional advertising can never achieve, are key factors. But if the quality of the content is compromised, the brands have a serious problem. Because for the reader, the quality of the content reflects the quality of the brand. So the topics have to match the brand, blunt call-to-actions must be avoided, and, if you want to start a dialog, you must be able to quickly respond to questions.

Often only big brands, that are in the public eye, are used to prove success and potential of content marketing. But, as in every industry, it needs groundbreaking projects that encourage others to find their own way and successfully implement their ideas. Ultimately, not every classic advertising campaign wins international prizes but could still be very successful. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that one third of all companies in the USA indicate to increase their budget in content marketing efforts. It is no coincidence, that in 2015 content marketing was the most important marketing trend of the year.

These three brands distinguish by their outstanding content marketing strategy:

$$$$$

Coca-Cola
It is an online magazine, neither a website nor a newsroom. At least, this is what the North American mega corporation called its own online presence, which comes along in a content marketing robe. Since 1892, Coca-Cola operates a marketing, which is often referred to by others as groundbreaking. Whether Santa Claus or the Coca-Cola tin sign, for many people Coca-Cola has become an expression of Western culture and innovative marketing campaigns.

But that‘s not the only reason for Coca-Cola beeing the most valuable non-IT brand in the world (position 1–3 are currently occupied by IT companies). The clue on their website: at first sight about half of the content has nothing to do with the soft drink manufacturer. The other half involves content, that speaks obviously positive about Coca-Cola products. In addition, the site is very interactive and invites users to participate. It is hardly surprising, that Coca-Cola is awarded as the pioneer of content marketing anew each year with the prestigious Cannes Lions for their marketing activities.

In a short video-interview Coca-Cola social media strategy chief Douglas Busk explains: “Our stories are not directly part of a marketing campaign. Rather, they tell the deeper story behind it. These stories are then reconciled with what generally is understood as a marketing campaign.”

$$$$$

Red Bull
The beverage company has an excellent content machinery and interacts with their own Red Bull Media House as a 360-degree media company. The strategy is perfectly aligned with the target group and focusses on quality, added value, entertainment and audience interaction.

In 2012, their content marketing campaign had reached its preliminary peak in the Stratos project, a milestone in content marketing. It was unique how Red Bull utilized Felix Baumgartner’s record jump from the stratosphere across all channels. On YouTube the live stream received a hitherto never reached audience of 9 million viewers. In addition to the 200 TV stations that reported worldwide, Red Bull’s own TV channel “Servus TV” broadcasted 10 hours on this mega event. Even the in-house magazine “The Red Bulletin” became part of this unique content strategy, whose overall advertising value is estimated to be 1 billion Euros.

$$$$$

LexisNexis
The US company, known in the anglophone world as a database for legal decisions, pursues an aggressive content marketing strategy with their blog. The content here is custom-tailored to the target group. Thereby, care is taken that the blog topics come from the everyday legal practice. These topics are offered to the reader in form of white papers, studies and tutorials. The surface is rarely scratched here. Quite the opposite, the reader is recognized as an expert and receives relevant content, provided by seven authors, who often are studied lawyers.
